Ubuntu Gardens: In Full Bloom

Last October I visited Ubuntu Gardens while the harvesting season was coming to an end. It was a wonderful learning experience for me. I was so excited to return with everything green, abundant and to get a new perspective on the work behind this local organic farm.

Again, this visit was all about the senses - the smell of the earth and everything in full bloom, the morning dew on the flower petals, the quiet busyness of everyone working away to prepare for the weekend markets or the regular maintenance and upkeep involved. I lost track of time completely and left happy and full of gratitude.

It was the first time my 5 year old daughter took a real interest in seeing photos of my client work. It may have had something to do with pushing buttons on my keyboard but I think it was more than that. She sat on my lap and I explained to her the photos, what Sally and Doug were doing and why I chose certain photos as my favourites. I pointed out the water droplets, the colours and textures, the tools, what I liked about each photo including the carrots that made their way from the earth to our table that night. She loved hearing about it all as much as I loved to tell her about it.

I have such a respect and admiration for this beautiful farm and the people behind it. The way they work is so inspiring - doing everything by hand with such care and focus.

Thanks again for letting me document part of your day.
